Today’s topic is about Apps, the wonderful invention after smartphones. Well, apps came with smartphones… Anyway, remember when we had the kind of phones that only has the function of texting, calling, photo/video function and the occasional one or two games that are pre-installed? The last phone I remember having with such limited functions was my pink LG phone I had when I was about 13. That’s about 7 years ago. It’s crazy how technology evolves so quickly. Now with the endless number of app creation every day, our phones can do wonders. We have apps that allow us to track our fitness, order takeaways, keep track of social media,…
It’s not YouTubers’ fault…
Hello, beautiful people! In this blog post, it will be in a video format, mostly because I am talking about YouTube. So check it out below! Ultimately, what I have to say is YouTube does not directly cause body issues. It is the societal norms that are embedded in our brains that tell us to find the flaws in ourselves using YouTubers as the ideal image. Instagram = Insta-sad?
Hello beautiful earthlings! As said before, I will be addressing the issue (perhaps not?) of Instagram. As much as Facebook, I am a very frequent user of Instagram as well. One difference about Instagram is that you HAVE to post a photo or an Instagram Story. Based off the last blog post, Facebook Makes Us Feel Ugly, I think we can establish the fact that visual is one of the biggest factor in low self-esteem. Instagram is nothing but visual. There are 1.3billion Facebook Users in the world. Let me ask you something, how often do you access Facebook? On average, how long do you spend your time on Facebook everyday? Young women in their teens and early 20s spend around two hours on Facebook every day. Personally, whenever I get a minute of free time, I am on Facebook. Wherever I am at ‘waiting’, I’ll be on Facebook scrolling down my NewsFeed. This can be me waiting for the bus or waiting for the bus to reach my destination. Yep, on Facebook. These mindless use never really made me wonder how I’ve been affected until I started writing this blog. To start off,…
The Rise of Unrealistic Beauty Standards
Being a social media obsessed person like I am, I am constantly on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc. It has come to my attention that there has been a rise of beauty standards that are unrealistic. Thankfully, I grew up with the mindset of loving my own body. As long as I maintain a balanced diet and prevent diseases that would harm me, I consider myself to be healthy. But I am not going to lie, there are days when I feel like I have to try that detox juice for 3 days straight to rid myself of the bad I consumed during lunch at McDonald’s. Sometimes I feel like I…
